NEW LEXINGTON — Hudson Gardner singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to send host New Lexington to a 5-4 win against Coshocton in a Muskingum Valley League-Small School Division game on May 5.
Dylan Wood’s RBI double send Coshocton ahead, 4-3, in the seventh, but hot-hitting Gus Pearson tied it with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning. It came after Wyatt Givens, who had three singles and two RBIs, tied it with his third hit in the fifth.
Givens allowed one earned run in a complete game to get the win as the Panthers improved to 8-9— he didn’t walk a batter. Wood struck out 10 in 6 1/3 innings for Coshocton, while Parker Loomis had three singles.
Sheridan 8, Morgan 2: Cole Cashdollar and Garrett Hannan singled in two runs to lead seven Generals (17-5) with hits in an MVL-Big School win at home.
Camdyn Packer allowed four hits in six innings with six strikeouts to get the win. He also stole two bases as Sheridan led 8-0 after three innings.
Coleman Steimer had two singles for Morgan (5-16).
Tri-Valley 8, John Glenn 7: Ryan Lamonica cracked a double and two singles with two RBIs and the Scotties made a 7-2 lead stand up in an MVL-Big School win at Kenny Wolford Park.
Garrett Lawler also doubled and singled and Casen Baker singled twice for Tri-Valley; Oliver Lanning allowed one earned run in four innings to get the win.
Carter Merry clubbed a homer and double and drove in a run for John Glenn. Reid Howard doubled.
Philo 4, River View 0: Wyatt Tysinger had two of the visiting Electrics’ six hits and collected 10 strikeouts in a complete gams in an MVL-Big School win in Warsaw.
Blake Klein doubled and Clark Frischen yielded no earned runs in a complete game for River View, which had three errors to Philo’s one.
Maysville 4, Crooksville 3: Kolton Gifford’s stole home in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete the Panthers’ comeback in an MVL-Small School win at home.
Gifford doubled and singled and Tre Butcher had two singles for Maysville, which led 2-1 after five innings before Crooksville scored twice to in the sixth to take the lead. Jake Deal allowed three hits and no earned runs in six innings.
Crooksville managed only three singles. Jace Thompson pitched a complete game.
West M 9, Meadowbrook 3: Ashton Ansel’s hot streak at the plate continued with three RBIs on a double and two singles for the Tornadoes, who held a 14-5 edge in hits in an MVL-Small School win in Falls Township.
Ansel, now hitting .407 with a 1.114 OPS, also pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts as West improved to 11-11. Silas Kuhn added four singles and Ethan Loyd doubled and singled.
Ridgewood 13, Navarre Fairless 10: The host Generals were outhit, 18-6, but drew 10 walks and got two doubles and a single from Wyatt Marlatt in a high-scoring win in West Lafayette.
Jace McQueen had three RBIs and Parker Snyder plated two runs with a single. Luke McCombs and Mason Kiser combined for three innings of one-run relief.
Softball
John Glenn 7, River View 0: Kendall Snider piled up 18 strikeouts in a two-hitter for the Muskies in am MVL-Big School makeup game in New Concord.
Ava Miller drove in two runs with a double and single and Addison Babcock and Bella Daniels had two singles for John Glenn, which scored all of its runs in the first four innings.
Newcomerstown 7, Maysville 5: Lily Tumblin had two doubles and a single with three RBIs in a losing cause for the Panthers, who let a 6-1 lead dissipate in a nonleague road loss.
Tumblin also pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Josalynn Milatovich and Sophie Dennis added doubles.
Tennis
Lanc. Fisher Cath. 3, Zanesville 2: Connor Baldwin earned a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 win against Sean Michaels at No. 1 singles and Subh Patel impressed in victory against Noah Krule (6-3, 6-1) in No. 2 singles to pace the Blue Devils in a loss to the Irish.

West M boys sweep tri: Jaxson Prang raced to an :11.10 to take the 100 and :22.64 to take the 200, and Carter Smith took the high jump (6-0) and 400 (:59.76) to lead the Tornadoes to wins against New Lex and Crooksville in an MVL triangular in Falls Township.
Alex Thorngate won the 300 hurdles (:46.62) and Clayton Cannon the 800 (2:10.2) for New Lex and Xavier Allen won the 1600 (5:41.3) for Crooksville.
Avery Kullman won the 200 (:28.92) and 400 (1:03.9) to pace West M’s girls to a sweep in the girls meet. Ayla Mowery won the 1600 (6:10.0) and 3200 (13:31.8).
Meg Mumford won the 100 (:14.11) and Hannah Sheets the 800 (2:44.5) for Crooksville; Kaili Holstein took the 100 hurdles (:21.45), Elizabeth Cook the long jump (14-6 1/4) and Ava Snedeker the high jump (5-2) for New Lex.
Hill sets new PR for Sheridan boys: Sheridan’s Creed Hill set a personal best with 52-10 1/2 in the shot in the Generals’ wins against Maysville and John Glenn at the Maysville Athletic Complex.
Andrew Shonk won the 300 hurdles (:46.84) and pole vault (10-0) and Coal Ranck reached 132-9 to take the discus for Sheridan; Ethan Zell’s 2:01.6 in the 800 and Kaid Ritchey’s :51.90 in the 400 led John Glenn; Aidan Sarbaugh won the high jump (5-0).
John Glenn’s girls picked up two wins as Ashlynn Kuklica raced to a 2:21.1 in the 800 and Teagan Walrath won the 100 hurdles (:18.06) and 300 hurdles (:55.0).
Olivia Rusnak won the 1600 (6:13/1) and 3200 (13:22.3) and Bella Van Wey swept the shot (41-9) and discus (140-2) for for Maysville; Sheridan won two relays, Teagan Knight took the 200 (:29.85) and Adriana Pack won the 400 (1:05.3).

Baseball
Maysville 13, Crooksville 7: Tre Butcher’s double and two singles netted four RBIs in a 14-hit effort for the Panthers in an MVL-Small School win in McLuney. Six Panthers had at least two hits.
Bryce Fisher added three singles and Kale Riley doubled in a run for Maysville, which extended a 9-7 lead with four runs over the final two innings.
Joe Bob Pitcock doubled and singled and Kyson Riggs singled twice with two RBIs for Crooksville.
Coshocton 20, New Lex 9: (5 inn.) Dylan Wood drove home five runs with two doubles and J.J. Herman produced four RBIs from the No. 9 hole to pace the Skins in an MVL-Small School win at Lake Park.
Herman doubled and singled and Koltin Tidwell had three RBIs on two singles for Coshocton, which scored 14 times in the fourth inning to overcome five errors.
Carter Hahn slugged a homer, Gus Pears on had two doubles and Wyatt Givens drove in three runs for New Lex.
Rosecrans 12, Harvest Prep 1: The Bishops held a 12-2 edge in hits in a Mid-State League-Cardinal win in Canal Winchester. Four Bishops pitchers combined on a two-hitter.
Jacobie Balo drove in three runs and led three Bishops with two singles in a 12-hit attack.
Tri-Valley 6, John Glenn 5: Garrett Lawler led a balanced Scotties offense with two singles, and Carter Williams got a key out in the sixth inning to secure a close MVL-Big School win.
John Glenn got within a run when Zane Townsend got a run home with a fielder’s choice and Owen Edwards stood on second base representing the tying run. Williams then induced Carter Merry into a groundout to second to keep the lead, and the Muskies went down in order in the seventh.
Townsend drove in three runs on two singles; Jensen Parry pitched two innings of one-run relief with three strikeouts.
Sheridan 5, Morgan 2: Connor Roshon and Noah Wamer combined on a four-hitter for the Generals in an MVL win on the road.
Wamer had one of Sheridan’s four singles and also walked twice to lead the offense. The Generals trailed 2-0 after four innings before rallying.
Coleman Steimer singled in a run for Morgan; Witten Schaad struck out four and walked five in 6 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Philo 12, River View 4: Jack Lincicome clubbed a solo homer and doubled home two for the Electrics, who piled up 15 hits in a convincing MVL-Big School win in Duncan Falls.
Kaden McElfresh fired five shutout innings of relief with five strikeouts to record the win. Cooper Roush doubled with two singles and Garrett Tom and Hunter Hoffer had two singles and two RBIs.
Layton Massie tripled and Reid Johnson and Wyatt Loomis collected two singles for River View.
Mount Vernon 5, Zanesville 3 (9 inn.): Tyson Kimble had three singles in a losing cause for the Blue Devils, who dropped their fifth game in their last six chances in a Licking County League-Buckeye Division game at Jay Payton Field.
Maddox Mohler allowed two earned runs in 8 1/3 innings for Zanesville, which had three errors.
Meadowbrook 8, West M 3: Braylon Lowery scattered six singles with six strikeouts in a complete game for the Colts in an MVL-Small School win in Byesville.
Brady Arnold drove in three runs with a triple and single and Cohen Miles plated three with a double to lead the Colts’ offense.
West M committed four errors and issued four walks.
Cambridge 5, Ridgewood 1: Three errors were the Generals’ undoing in a nonleague loss in West Lafayette.
Dawson Geese and Garrett Carpenter combined on a one-hitter for the Bobcats.
Softball
Sheridan 3, Circleville 2: Avery Hall tripled and scored the go-ahead run on Brook Cadigan’s squeeze bunt in the fifth inning to lead the Generals to a close win against the visiting Tigers.
Adee Fleegle struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter in a complete game for Sheridan (17-6). She allowed five hits.
John Glenn 2, West Holmes 0: Delaney Bell twirled a two-hitter for the Muskies, who made four hits stand up in a nonleague win against the Knights in New Concord.
Bell struck out six and walked two, throwing 56 of her 84 pitches for strikes, as the Knights managed only two singles. Estelle Matheney singled, walked, stole two bases and scored both Muskie runs.
Ridgewood 7, West M 6 (9 inn.): The Generals scored the tying and winning runs on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure a comeback win at home.
Bates also slugged a homer and double and Jayden Jaras doubled and singled twice with three RBIs.
Gabbi Hammer clubbed a double and single with three RBIs and Daylee Foster had two singles for West, which took a 6-5 lead in the ninth on Calie Smith’s sacrifice fly, then tied it on Hammer’s two-run double off ace Addison Lahmers in the seventh.
Philo 5, Maysville 1: Jocee Hummel’s three-run homer backed Lexi Charles’ five-hitter with no walks in an MVL crossover win against the Panthers.
Kendall Mitton had two singles with an RBI for Maysville. Lily Tumblin yielded four hits and no earned runs in a complete game.
Track
Zanesville 5, Logan 0: Connor Baldwin won flawlessly in No. 1 singles and Subh Patel (6-1, 6-1) and Clifton Birchett (6-3, 6-2) also picked up singles wins for the Blue Devils in a home win against Chieftains.
Chase Gillogly and Allen Vance (6-3, 6-1) and Cade Humphrey and James McCandlish (6-2, 6-1) picked up doubles wins.

Baseball
River View 11, Claymont 0 (5 inn.): Layton Massie cracked a triple and double to back five shutout innings with 11 strikeouts from Maquire Werntz in a nonleague tilt in Uhrichsville. It was the Black Bears’ second straight win after eight straight defeats.
Massie, who also singled, finished with three RBIs and Werntz doubled, walked twice and drove in two, as River View (4-9) scored five times in the first two innings and made the most of six hits and 11 walks.
Maysville 11, Zanesville 1 (6 inn.): Jacob Deal and Bryce Fisher combined on a two-hitter and Kade Fusner drove in four runs on a pair of two-run singles for the visiting Panthers, who scored five unearned runs in a nonleague win at Jay Payton Field.
Kale Riley added a double and single for Maysville, which scored all of its runs in the final three innings.
Rosecrans 5, Shenandoah 4: The host Bishops scored four times in the fifth inning, then held off a seventh-inning rally when Jacobie Balo threw out a runner at home to end the game, securing a nonleague win at Gant Municipal Stadium.
Jacobie Balo fired six one-run innings with six strikeouts to get the win, while Hayden Perdue had a key two-run single in the fifth to forge a 3-1 lead. Coen Grandstaff added a triple and single.
Softball
Lakewood 6, West M 3: Calie Smith’s strong season continued with a homer and double in losing cause for the Tornadoes (14-7) in a nonleague loss in Falls Township.
Mireyah Reese added two doubles with an RBI for West, whose pitchers yielded 12 hits and walked three batters. Allie Stimmell slugged a homer for Lakewood (14-6).
Track
Cook, Snedeker strike gold at Belpre: New Lexington’s Elizabeth Cook reached 14-1 3/4 to take the long jump and Ava Snedeker cleared 5-2 to take the high jump to lead the local contingent at the 12-team Belpre Invitational.
Cook also helped the winning 4×100 relay (:53.65) with Kyla Schneider, Moreh Longhenry and Alexandra Pyle and the second-place 4×200 with Schneider, Longhenry and Snedeker. Schneider added a second in the 200 (:28.83).
Freshman Cohen Martin-Young was second in the 100 (:11.84) for the Panther boys. The 4×800 relay of Quinn Mildenstein, Benjamin Hazlett, Carter Chennells and Clayton Cannon was also second (10:09.0).
May 1 results
Track
Kuklica, Van Wey strong at Dan Adams: John Glenn’s Ashlynn Kuklica rolled to wins in the 400 (1:01.0), 800 (2:26.1) and 1600 (5:14.3) to lead area girls in cold, raw conditions in the Dan Adams Invitational at Maysville.
Maysville’s Bella Van Wey won the shot (41-2) and discus (136-8), Emma Tamasovich claimed the long jump (17-0 1/4) and was second in the high jump (5-0) and Olivia Rusnak second in the 3200 (13:04.4).
Sheridan received wins from Adrianna Pack in the 3200 (12:54.8) and Brenna Moorehead in the 300 hurdles (:48.10), along with its 4×400 (4:23.2) and 4×800 (10:25.8) relays. Moorehead was second in the 100 hurdles (:17.50).
Teagan Walrath added a win in the 100 hurdles (:17.39) for John Glenn; Chloee Adams won the high jump (5-0) for River View.
Tri-Valley was led by Erin Hogue’s runner-up finishes in the 800 (2:27.9) and 1600 (5:19.2); West Muskingum saw Avery Kullman take second in the 400 (1:04.9) and Kloe Hershey place second in the shot (33-4 1/2) and third in the discus (104-8).
Chloe Wahl reached 11-0 take second in the pole vault for Zanesville; Aniah Barnett was third in the 200 (:27.14) and long jump (15-9).
In the boys meet, Sheridan’s Creed Hill took gold in the shot (50-0 1/2) and the 4×800 also won (9:10.2); Hudson Wilson was second in the 3200 (9:55.0) and Luke Clouse second in the high jump (6-2).
Kaid Ritchey won the 400 (:51.57) and Ethan Zell the 800 (1:58.3) to pace John Glenn; River View’s 4×400 relay won in 3:35.0; Tri-Valley’s Colten Rollison (21-8 1/4) and Lucca Gargasz (20-2 3/4) were first and second, respectively, in the long jump
West Muskingum’s Carter Smith won the high jump (6-4) and Jaxson Prang was second in the 100 (:11.56) and 200 (:23.19); Zanesville’s Cam Willett cruised to a win in the 110 hurdles (:14.9) and the Blue Devils were second in the 4×100 relay (:45.57).
Maysville’s Connor Young was third in the shot (41-8).
McQueen, DeLong win at Tusky Valley: Philo’s Aubree DeLong won the 100 hurdles (:15.73) and Ridgewood’s Jaelyn McQueen took the 100 (:12.82) to pace area runners at the Thrilla in Zoarvilla at Tuscarawas Valley High School.
McQueen was also second in the long jump (15-10 1/2) and aided the 4×100 relay with Ayanna Masters, Kylee Nice and Lorryn Wentz that was second (:51.82); the 4×200 relay of Javyn Gress, Wentz, Bice and Kenzie Bice was second (1:49.4).
Ridgewood’s boys 4×200 relay of Breyor Ford, Shawn Beckelheimer, Drake Angle and Logan Wince won in 1:36.2. Cody Croy won the seated shot (19-3 1/2).
Philo’s Aidan Mahon was second in the 200 (:23.10).
