Attorney Grace Barnard is the newest Akron Municipal Court magistrate after Municipal Court Judge Ron Cable swore them in on June 11.
Barnard, who identifies using they and them pronouns, joined Cable’s staff in 2022 and previously served as a judicial attorney, an Akron Municipal Court news release announced on Monday. They graduated from Cleveland State University’s law school and passed the Ohio Bar Exam in 2018.
Magistrates are not elected positions. Instead, judges appoint magistrates.
“Magistrate Barnard is terrific at writing, time management and problem solving,” Cable said in the news release. “Grace treats all visitors to my courtroom with kindness and respect.”
