The Cincinnati Bengals host the Chicago Bears on Saturday night in Week 2 of the preseason, yes.
But the hosting team won’t have many starters out there.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor and other musings from around training camp have suggested Joe Burrow and the starters won’t see the field on Saturday night.
The reason is simple enough, too: Burrow and the starters went all-out during the joint practice with the Bears earlier in the week. The joint practice that included Burrow in a skirmish and lots of important lessons about where things stand.
The Bengals used that controlled environment to take care of the starters in live action. Next, they’ll use a preseason game to evaluate the depth of the roster and inch much closer to final 53-man roster decisions.
