Akron police chief, Akron mayor condemn shooting
Both Akron Police Chief Brian Harding and Akron Mayor Shammas Malik expressed their condolences for Javion’s family, friends and those impacted by his death.
“I cannot overstate how deeply this affects us all,” Harding said in a statement June 13. “The Akron Police Department is fully committed to finding those responsible and bringing justice to this family. We will not rest until we have answers.”
The mayor echoed the chief’s sentiment.
“APD detectives are actively investigating, and as a city we are committed to making sure that those responsible for this young man’s death will be held accountable for their actions,” Malik said in a statement on Facebook on June 14. “Violence has no place in Akron and we will continue to work together with our officers and APD leadership, our young people, and our entire community as we aim to put a stop to gun violence in Akron.”
The shooting remains under investigation.
