Akron police are investigating a fatal shooting early Saturday morning that left a woman dead at the I Promise Housing.

Authorities say responding officers found a 26-year-old woman dead at the scene.

Authorities say the victim, whose identity was not released, suffered a gunshot wound.

Stephanie Weglin, spokesperson for the LeBron James Family Foundation, said no I Promise School students or family members were involved in the shooting that led to a “tragic loss of life at I PROMISE Housing.”

“We extend our sympathy and support to all involved as we continue the hard work to create positive change in our community,” Weglin said. “Resources are available to those struggling with this loss through our Family Resource Center that connects families to supports across the community.”

The $16.1 million apartment complex consists of 50 units to provide affordable housing for I Promise families and others in the community who qualify through an application process.

Although no arrests have been made, police say this was an isolated incident and there is no “ongoing threat to the community.”

The department’s Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to the apartment.
