An air quality alert has been extended across Greater Cincinnati, officials said.
Ozone levels are expected to continue be unhealthy for sensitive groups through Wednesday, July 15, according to the Southwest Ohio Air Quality Agency. The alert was initially set to end on July 14.
Children, older adults and those with asthma should avoid spending time outdoors, officials said.
The alert includes Butler, Clermont, Hamilton, Warren, Boone, Campbell, Kenton and Dearborn County.
The EPA says ozone levels above 70 parts per billion can begin to affect air quality. At 71 parts per billion, the air is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. You can check current air quality levels online.
The Southwest Ohio Air Quality Agency tracks pollution levels in the region. Ozone is the most common driver of alerts, especially in warmer months. An alert is issued when ozone or particle pollution is expected to reach unhealthy levels.
