Coming off its first winless season since 2006, Waterloo has plenty of chances to get 2026 off to a better start.
The Vikings’ opener will certainly be one to watch. A year ago, Waterloo played its closest game of the season at Akron Springfield, falling 40-32. The Vikings lost each of their next nine games by 20-plus points. Waterloo hopes to avenge last year’s tight loss, in which Keyshawne Anderson King exploded for five touchdowns, when it hosts Springfield in its 2026 opener. After opening at home against the Spartans, Waterloo hits the road for games against Beachwood (1-9 last year) and Lisbon David Anderson (6-5). The Bison represent the Vikings’ only new opponent this season. Again, Beachwood marks an early opportunity for Waterloo as the Bison are 4-43 since the start of the 2021 season.
League play figures to be challenging again with three playoff teams from a year ago, including Region 25 champion McDonald. Waterloo will host a couple of its most proximate rivals in its final year in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference, with Western Reserve coming to town to kick off league play in Week 4 and Jackson-Milton dropping by in Week 8.
The Vikings have six home games, with four of their first six taking place at Valhalla. As for their road games, their finale against Memorial is intriguing. The Vikings topped the Red Devils by four points in 2024. They also beat the Blue Jays that year.
