18-year-old firefighter killed in Miami Township motorcycle crash

An 18-year-old firefighter was killed in a Miami Township motorcycle crash, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. July 6 on state Route 131 near Dry Run Road. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Honda motorcycle, operated by Wyatt Fisher, was traveling east on the highway when it struck a Ford Escape from behind after it had slowed in traffic, high patrol said in a news release.

The motorcycle then traveled left of center and struck a Volkswagen Routan that was stopped in traffic on the westbound side of the highway.

Fisher sustained serious injuries and was flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, the release said.

Fisher served in the Stonelick Township Fire Department in Batavia, according to a post from the agency. He was set to begin as an assistant coach soccer at Clermont Northeastern High School, where he graduated from in May. Before that, he was a cadet with Wayne Township Fire & Emergency Management Services.

“His commitment to protecting our community reflected the very best of the fire service,” the post stated. “Rest easy, Brother. He have the watch from here.”

Fisher was off-duty at the time of the crash. The township said it would share funeral arraignments as they are made available.

Highway patrol is continuing to investigate the crash, the release stated.
