A 12-year-old has died following a July 6 two-vehicle collision in Florence, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
Camden Hunter died from his injuries on Monday, July 13 at Cincinnati Children’s.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the collision in front of 7405 Industrial Road. Four people were injured in the collision, including Hunter and 75-year-old Shirley Hadden, who was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence, police say.
Hadden was traveling north while exiting a lot in a 2020 Honda Fit with Hunter and 60-year-old Mary Williams. Tia Wright, 52, was traveling eastbound in the left lane of Industrial Road in a 2018 Hyundai Sonata.
Williams is listed as Hadden’s sister in Hadden’s obituary. The obituary names Hunter as one of Williams’ grandchildren.
Hunter’s address is the Hamilton County Department of Job and Family Services, according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s report. The agency confirmed Hunter was in their care.
Roadway evidence and witness statements show that Hadden turned left from the parking lot and attempted to cross both eastbound lanes to travel westbound on Industrial Road. That’s when she pulled directly into Wright’s vehicle’s path, which police say caused the collision.
Independence EMS transported Williams to UC Medical Center with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Florence EMS transported Wright to UC Medical Center with serious and not life-threatening injuries.
Florence EMS transported Hunter to Cincinnati Children’s.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision, the release said. Police do not believe speed, alcohol, or drug impairment to be factors in the collision but will still investigate. All drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
No one has been charged.
