Vassar College junior Haley Schoenegge posted the top time in the 1,500-meter preliminaries at the NCAA Div. III track and field championships in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on Thursday, May 21.
Schoenegge led her heat throughout, winning in 4 minutes, 24.00 seconds. She advances to Saturday’s final round at 2:25 p.m. ET. Her best time of the season is 4:16.13. She is also the No. 2 seed for the 5,000 (16:15.60), a one-race final on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET.
Newburgh’s Natalia Sweat, a sophomore at SUNY Oneonta, posted the 17th-best time at 4:32.91, finishing tenth in her heat – she does not advance. She was the No. 19 seed headed into the event, with a season-best of 4:29.27.
Webutuck High School graduate Amanda Intrieri, a sophomore at SUNY Delhi, runs the 800 prelims at 4:20 p.m. ET on Friday.
In Thursday’s opening round of the 1,600-meter relay, Intrieri and Pine Bush grad Zoe Rodi ran on the SUNY Delhi squad that finished 11th in 3:46.74, the sixth finisher in the second heat – the Broncos missed advancement by 9-10ths of a second. Delhi improved on its seed time of 3:47.15.
At noon Saturday, Vassar sophomore Amanda Hanrahan will be the No. 19 seed in hammer (53.30 meters). At 3 p.m., Vassar senior Jahmilia Dennis will be the No. 6 seed in triple jump (12.18 meters).
