If you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you may be surprised to find two payments arriving in October. Don’t worry — this isn’t an error. It’s a quirk in the calendar that happens a few times each year.
Here’s why SSI payments will be issued twice in October, and when you can expect to get your benefits next.
Two SSI payments in October: Here’s why
People who receive only SSI benefits will receive two payments in October.
The first deposit date – Wednesday, Oct. 1 – is for the October monthly payment. The second payment will be issued roughly four weeks later – on Friday, Oct. 31- and is the November monthly payment. The second payment is because the usual deposit date — the first of the month – lands on a weekend.
This is standard SSA policy: when the first falls on a weekend or federal holiday, SSI payments are made on the preceding business day.

As of 2025, adults must generally earn less than $2,019/month in wages to qualify. Many SSI recipients also receive Social Security benefits, but the two programs are funded separately.
Upcoming SSI payment dates in 2025
After October, the remaining SSI payment dates for 2025 are:
You can view the full payment schedule on the SSA’s official calendar.
What about Social Security retirement or disability payments?
If you receive regular Social Security (retirement or SSDI), your payment will still arrive in October. Those payments follow a separate schedule, based on your birth date or the date you first started receiving benefits:
You can also view the SSA’s full 2025 payment calendar on its official website.
What if your payment doesn’t arrive?
If your scheduled payment doesn’t show up, SSA advises waiting three mailing days before contacting them. Most payments are issued via direct deposit, which helps reduce delays.
You can also contact SSA by phone at 1-800-772-1213 or TTY 1-800-325-0778, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
