Who's on my ballot in Mendon? Election 2025 candidates

This year, Mendon residents will cast their ballots for seven town positions, two state Supreme Court judgeships and a Family Court judge.

To help inform your vote, we sent brief questionnaires through the party chairpersons to all candidates in contested races. Those with expanded information and photos below responded to the questionnaire. Responses have been lightly edited for clarity and space.

Mendon Town Supervisor

Joe Alati, D

Current or prior elected office: Served three terms on the Honeoye Falls-Lima School Board; served six years as department union delegate for the Boces United Professionals at Monroe 1 BOCES; and served eight years as Boces United Professionals co-president.

Professional experience: Small business owner for 12 years in Rochester. Taught high school at Monroe 1 BOCES for over 30 years. Was a legislative liaison for Honeoye Falls-Lima schools to Albany through the Monroe County School Board Association.

Top priority: Local ambulance service is at risk of closing down. This is a serious issue affecting all of our residents and they are unaware. No median housing in Mendon. Younger families cannot afford to start a family here. Seniors wishing to retire are forced out of the community. Mendon population is aging out and young families are our future. Without them moving in, we have empty seats at our schools, less people to patronize local businesses and less potential volunteers for emergency services.

Brent Rosiek, R, C

Age: 52

Current or prior elected offices: Currently serving on town council and as Deputy Supervisor

Professional experience: Professional civil engineer (currently self-employed) and has provided consulting services to more than 20 cities, towns, villages and counties as well as private clients.

Top priority: Establishing improved communications to be clear, consistent, and transparent led by the Town Supervisor. This plan will guide interactions with residents, staff, and other stakeholders to build trust, foster engagement, and ensure the effective dissemination of information.

Mendon Town Board (2)

Tanner A. Cheek, D

Current or prior elected office: None.

Professional experience: Currently serving as Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Safran. Has a background in defense and aerospace, including service as a U.S. Army reconnaissance team leader and sniper. Also leads entrepreneurial ventures such as Rheo Dive, a patent-pending smart dive mask startup.

Top priority: The Honeoye Falls Mendon Volunteer Ambulance (HFMVA) is facing funding uncertainty after the Mendon Town Board proposed switching to a per-call reimbursement model instead of stable annual support. This approach jeopardizes the service’s ability to maintain staffing, training, and readiness, since EMS relies on consistent funding to operate effectively. While a budget line exists in the preliminary 2026 budget, it does not mean Mendon will negotiate a contract with Honeoye Falls. The situation highlights the need for cooperation between Mendon, Honeoye Falls and West Bloomfield to secure sustainable funding and proper oversight for this essential emergency service that protects residents every day.

Professional experience: Licensed realtor with RE/MAX Realty Group. I worked as a real estate paralegal, as well as a mortgage loan closer and processor, giving me a well-rounded understanding of the real estate process from every angle.

Top priority: My top priority is building a strong, connected community where families feel supported and every resident feels heard. As a mother and community leader, I understand the importance of safety, fiscal responsibility, and thoughtful growth that preserves Mendon’s charm while preparing for the future. I’m committed to making decisions that strengthen our neighborhoods, support our youth, and ensure our town remains a place we’re all proud to call home.

David Smith, R, C

Age: 63

Current or prior elected office: None

Professional experience: Retired captain of the Brighton Fire Department, business owner in the Town of Mendon

Top priority: Through my work in the community, both residentially and commercially, I have had countless opportunities to engage with residents and understand the issues and priorities that matter most to them. These interactions have strengthened my desire to serve Mendon on a broader scale, bringing a collaborative and solutions-focused approach to the Town Board.
