April begins with a full moon, known as the Pink Moon.
Here’s when to look for it, what to know about it.
When will we see the full moon in April 2026?
The pink moon, April’s full moon, will reach peak illumination on Wednesday, April 1, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. Its peak viewing time will be around 10:12 p.m. ET.
Why is it called the pink moon?
While the name may suggest viewing a rosy-colored hue, that’s not the case. April’s pink moon nickname comes from the early spring bloom of a wildflower native to eastern North America — Phlox subulata, commonly known as creeping phlox or moss phlox. Often called moss pink, it is typically in full bloom around the time of April’s full moon.
What is the Paschal Moon? Its role in determining Easter date
Easter falls on April 5 in 2026. April’s full moon is also special due to its religious significance.
The first full moon of spring is also known as the Paschal Moon or Passover Moon, which in turn determines the date of Easter Sunday.
Easter occurs on the first Sunday after the Paschal full moon, the first full moon following the spring equinox. In the Gregorian calendar, it is always observed on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25.
When is May’s full moon?
Skygazers will see two full moons in May.
The first will be at the start of the month on May 1 and is called the flower moon. The second closes the month on May 31 and is called the blue moon, according to Old Farmer’s Almanac.
The Flower moon will reach its peak at 1:23 p.m. ET and the blue moon will reach peak at 4:45 a.m. ET, according to space.com.
