An investigation found that Tanner Ofalt, 27, of Western, was cutting down trees on his property. After performing a cut on one of the trees, it fell and struck Tanner. CPR was immediately started, and he was transported to Rome Hospital by AmCare Ambulance.

However, after all efforts by hospital staff, Ofalt died as a result of his injuries, deputies said.

The sheriff’s office was assisted on the scene by members of the Westernville Fire Department and AmCare.

Tanner was employed as a dispatcher for the Oneida County Emergency Services, deputies said.
