In 1991, Wegmans Food Markets’ launched its Food You Feel Good About category of products that contain no unnecessary artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and are free of high-fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners and trans fats from partially hydrogenated oils.
More than 90% of Wegmans items – thousands of products – now fall into the Food You Feel Good About category (or Wegmans’ organic line), which can be found across store departments, from baked goods and dairy, to meat and produce, to frozen and prepared foods.

What does the list say about Wegmans shoppers?
Asked what the list says about Wegmans customers’ priorities, Steve Bement, vice president of Wegmans Brand Product Development, said: “When we look at the items our customers choose most often, it’s clear that people rely on us for the everyday essentials that make their routines easier. From fresh produce to pantry staples, these top‑selling products reflect what matters most to the families we serve – quality, convenience and the foods they trust every day.”
Product stats
Bananas are the top-selling fresh fruit in the United States, and the average American consumes nearly 27 pounds a year, Forbes reports.
They also are the top-selling grocery item at Walmart.
“Their popularity stems from more than just taste: They’re affordable, nutritious and convenient, making them a favorite across generations,” Elias Arenas, a sourcing manager for Walmart International in Costa Rica, explained on Walmart’s website.
Instacart customers have made them No. 1, too. In 2023, the grocery delivery service hit a milestone with more than 1 billion bananas delivered.
The popularity of avocados, ranked 2 and 13 on Wegmans’ list, has soared in recent decades. Imports, production and availability rose more than 300% between 2001 and 2024, producebusiness.com reported, based on U.S. Department of Agriculture data.
Meanwhile, heavy cream, ranked 20 on Wegmans’ list, is especially popular among Instacart customers in New York, the company says.
