It’s only a 10-second clip. No one is handing out division titles because of a throw made during an OTA practice session.
The New York Jets won’t earn a playoff berth based on one highlight. No one should rush to make bold predictions based on a single rep.
Then again, that’s part of what makes this time of year fun.
The latter stages of spring and summer have always been fueled by optimism, and optimism often begins with moments exactly like the one Jets fans recently witnessed involving QB Geno Smith and receiver Omar Cooper Jr.
A short video shared from practice showed Smith connecting with Cooper on a well-executed pass play, a brief but encouraging glimpse of what the Jets hope becomes a productive partnership.

A short video shared from practice showed Smith connecting with Cooper on a well-executed pass play. It was a brief but encouraging glimpse of what the Jets hope becomes a productive partnership. The clip itself lasts only a few seconds, but it accomplished exactly what offseason highlights are supposed to. It generated excitement, and Jets fans could use a little
Practice highlights fuel offseason excitement. Fans immediately began discussing the timing, the route, and the possibility that the two players are beginning to develop chemistry before training camp reaches full speed.
That’s the nature of this stage of the NFL calendar. Every impressive catch sparks conversation. Every deep throw becomes a talking point. Every positive development is magnified because everyone is searching for clues about what the upcoming season might hold.
To be fair, that’s also why caution is necessary. NFL history is littered with training-camp stars and preseason sensations who never replicated those performances when the games began to matter.
One highlight doesn’t guarantee future success. The real test comes later. Still, there is value in seeing quarterbacks and receivers build timing and trust.
Those relationships aren’t developed overnight. They are formed through countless repetitions, meetings, walkthroughs, and practice sessions. Every successful connection becomes another building block.
Will one 10-second clip help the Jets win games this fall? Of course not. What it does provide, however, is a small reminder of why optimism exists in the first place.
The regular season remains months away, but if Geno Smith and Omar Cooper Jr. continue stacking positive moments together, Jets fans may eventually view clips like this as an early sign that something promising was beginning to take shape.
