With 58% of the total vote share, Lourdes girls basketball’s Aaliyah Pegram is the Poughkeepsie Journal girls athlete of the week for Jan 19-25.

Nominations are based on information gathered and received by the Poughkeepsie Journal throughout the week. For consideration, coaches are asked to submit game information and player stats to Edecker@usatodayco.com before the end of the week.

Each week’s winner will be selected and posted in the upcoming week’s poll. Polls will close at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night before the announcement the following morning.

Livi Lathrop, New Paltz girls indoor track & field

Lathrop won the Section IX Class B girls high jump at West Point over the weekend, also finished second in triple jump and third in long jump.

Violet Bliss, Pine Plains girls indoor track & field

Bliss placed second in both the 1500-meter and 3000-meter run at the Section IX Class B championships.

Ellia Bailey, Arlington girls basketball

Bailey finished with 24 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in Arlington’s 81-35 victory over Mt. Vernon on Jan. 30.

Lanie Saquicela, Roy C. Ketcham girls indoor track & field

The freshman finished off an impressive Section 1 league championship at Rockland Community College with a first place finish in the 55-meter hurdles and high jump finals.
