ROSENDALE – Two people were killed and a third was in critical condition following a two-car crash on the Thruway on Dec. 9.
The crash happened when one of the drivers was trying to make a U-turn, state police said. The crash happened near milepost marker 83 in the town of Rosendale.
State police said a preliminary investigation determined that a 2007 Nissan driven by Guillermo Olivera, 84, of Elizaville, N.Y., received lifesaving meawas southbound on the Thruway when he entered thr U-turn at mile marker 83.
A 2023 Kia was traveling north in the left lane, and it collided with the Nissan as it was executing the U-turn into the northbound lanes.
The impact caused the Nissan to roll over several times. Following the collision, the Kia exited the left lane and struck the guide rail
The passenger in the Nissan, Esther Oliveras, 81, of Elizaville, received lifesaving measures at the scene but ultimately died from her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, The driver, Guillermo Olivera, was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla,where he later died from his injuries and was pronunced dead.
The driver of the Kia, identified as Amiah Desiah Lea Corp, 21, of Schenedtady, was transporrted to Westchester Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition.
Thecollision remains under investigation. Anyone with information regardng this incident is asked to call state police at 845-344-5300.
