Two men have been indicted in the 2019 murder of a Kingston man.
Ulster County District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji announced that Wilbur Reese, 55, of Monticello, and Dushan Wilson, 37, of Albany, were indicted by an Ulster County grand jury for second-degree murder, second-degree conspiracy and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies.
According to Nneji, Reese and Wilson allegedly lured Daniel “D.J.” Thomas out of his home on Prospect Street in Kingston on Oct. 24, 2019, and shot him in the face. A previous attempt was foiled by the presence of a police patrol in the area.
Investigation by Kingston police and state police on Oct. 24, 2019, led to the recovery of material evidence in the case.
The Kingston police, the Major Crimes Division and the Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team of the state police and investigators from the district attorney’s office collaborated on the investigation, which led to the arrest of Reese and Wilson last month.
“This investigation was intensely pursued by the Kingston Police Department with assistance from the Major Crimes Division of the New York State Police for almost seven years,” Nneji said in a statement released by his office. “I am grateful to the men and women who dedicate themselves to bring peace of mind, in this and other cases, especially gun violence, for the sake of our public safety.”
Wilson’s attorney, Matthew Hug, could not immediately be reached for comment. Reese is representing himself at this time.
They are scheduled to return to court on July 22.
