Irondequoit is one of only four large school teams in Section V that remain undefeated. Timely turnovers against Canandaigua are a major reason why.
The Gray Wolves had 10 possessions on Friday night. Four ended prematurely, via either fumble or interception.
No play was more consequential than the fumble midway through the third quarter, returned 55 yards by Irondequoit’s Anthony Major for the Eagles’ first points of the night and an 8-7 lead (after a successful two-point conversion).
Later, in the fourth quarter, Canandaigua’s botched handoff set up Irondequoit’s go-ahead touchdown, a 29-yard run by Cooper Moore (who also had one of the Eagles’ three fumble recoveries).
Irondequoit (3-0) travels to Greece Athena next Friday, while Canandaigua (2-1) is home against Churchville-Chili.
