Traffic stop in Rome leads to foot pursuit and arrest

A traffic stop in Rome turned into a foot pursuit, according to a statement from the Rome Police Department.

At around 10:19 a.m. on March 10, the Rome Police Department Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on Riverside Drive and during the stop, police say the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot, attempting to enter a nearby residence.

After a brief foot pursuit, officers apprehended the driver and took him into custody.

Following an investigation, the driver was identified as 36-year-old Sebastian Sharpe, who was found to have multiple active warrants for his arrest through various local agencies.

Sharpe was also charged with the seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.

Sharpe was arraigned in Rome City Court and remanded to Oneida County Jail due to his active warrants.

The passenger in the vehicle, identified as 44-year-old Bruce Drawdy, was also charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Drawdy was processed and released with an appearance ticket.
