Tractor-trailer crash closes stretch of County Road 5 in Canandaigua

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says County Road 5 in the Town of Seneca is closed following a crash involving a semi-truck and a farm tractor.

The closure affects the stretch between Route 245 and State Route 5 & 20 and is expected to last several hours.

According to deputies, first responders were called to the intersection of County Road 5 and Leet Road for a reported personal injury crash involving a semi-truck towing a trailer and an agricultural tractor.

Investigators say the semi-truck, driven by Ryan Szalay of Rochester, attempted to pass the farm tractor as it was turning left onto Leet Road. The truck struck the tractor on the operator’s side, causing the semi and trailer to overturn onto the driver’s side.

Szalay sustained serious injuries to his left arm and was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital. He was issued a traffic citation for unsafe passing.

The farm tractor was operated by Elias Ortiz-Diaz and owned by Hanson Farms LLC. The semi-truck and trailer are owned by Lake Beverage Corp.

The Sheriff’s Office will provide an update once the road reopens.
