Teen critically injured after gasoline fire in Ontario County

A 15-year-old Ontario County boy was critically injured April 23 after Ontario County sheriff’s deputies said he poured gasoline on a fire outside a home on Little Church Road in Stanley.

A 51-year-old woman at the address also was burned after trying to extinguish the flames, deputies said.

The boy, who was not identified, suffered partial thickness, or second-degree, burns over most of his body after the gasoline exploded, deputies said.

The teen was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester by Mercy Flight Central helicopter. Deputies said he was in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon in Strong’s ICU burn unit.

The woman also was taken to Strong by Stanley Hall Gorham Ambulance for treatment of burns to her arm and foot.

Deputies said the fire, which was reported at 9 a.m., was accidental and not suspicious.

Stanley and Hall firefighters also assisted at the scene.
