More than 3,000 tomato soup kits sold at Walmart, including stores in New York, have been recalled because they may be contaminated with listeria, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Kettle Cuisine LLC of Savage, Maryland, recalled 3,240 Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kits on Aug. 12 after routine testing found a presumptive positive result for Listeria monocytogenes.
The products were sold at select Walmart stores in 29 states, including New York, between June 30 and July 7.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products, according to the company.

The recall involves Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kits sold in 14-ounce trays.

The states included Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont and West Virginia, as well as Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
What should you do if you bought the soup?
Consumers who purchased the recalled soup kits should not eat, serve, sell or distribute them, according to the FDA.
Kettle Cuisine recommends throwing the products away or returning them to Walmart for a refund.
Consumers should also wash their hands after handling the recalled products and clean and sanitize any refrigerators, freezers, containers, utensils, countertops or other surfaces that may have come into contact with the soup.
What are the symptoms of listeria?
Listeria infection can cause fever, severe headache, muscle aches, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
The infection can be particularly serious for older adults, young children, people with weakened immune systems and pregnant women. During pregnancy, listeria infection can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery or a life-threatening infection in a newborn.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, invasive listeriosis occurs when the bacteria spreads beyond the intestines. Symptoms of invasive illness generally begin within two weeks after eating contaminated food, although the timing can vary.
Anyone who ate a recalled product and develops symptoms should contact a health care provider.
