Regional Transit Service (RTS) is proposing several updates to its RTS On Demand service and is inviting public feedback.
In 2021, RTS introduced On Demand service as part of the Reimagine RTS initiative, which redesigned Rochester’s 40-year-old transit system. On Demand was created to serve areas with historically low ridership. After four years of operation supported by $1.7 million in annual funding, that funding has now ended.
“Given our financial position and the lessons learned over the past four years, these proposed changes aim to improve customer experience while reducing operational costs,” said Laura Kenyon, RTS Director of Communications and Customer Experience.
Proposed changes include:
No-show & cancellation policy
Pre-booking window
Pick-ups & drop-offs
Fare updates
RTS On Demand uses 13% of Monroe County transit resources but accounts for only 3% of total ridership. Due to its higher cost, RTS is proposing a fare increase:
Discounted fares will remain for:
Fare capping will end for RTS On Demand. It will continue for RTS Connect at $3/day or $56/month.
