A Monroe County man is being held in the Steuben County lockup on multiple felony counts after he allegedly assaulted two people, including a Steuben County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was investigating a report of a violent domestic incident in Wayland.
The sheriff’s office said Daniel L. Beal, 57, of Edgecreek Trail, Rochester was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree strangulation, second-degree robbery, third-degree assault, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration in connection to the July 16 incident in Wayland.
According to the sheriff’s office, Beal assaulted another person and forcibly stole money from that individual.
Beal then resisted arrest by strangling the responding deputy sheriff and attempting to flee the scene, authorities said.
The sheriff’s office said the victim of the alleged robbery was transported to a local medical facility for treatment.
The deputy sheriff received treatment at a local hospital and was released.
Beal was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
Steuben County Sheriff James Allard thanked New York State Police and the Springwater-Wayland EMS for intervening into the alleged assault of the deputy sheriff.
