Rochester man accused of hammer, gun attack on neighbor

A 19-year-old man has been accused of beating a man with a hammer and shooting him in northeast Rochester over the weekend, according to Rochester police.

Malikai Solomon of Rochester was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, in connection with the incident that took place on Rosewood Terrace Sunday afternoon, said Capt. Greg Bello of the Rochester Police Department.

Officers were called to Rosewood Terrace just after 12:30 p.m., after a 21-year-old man was shot at least once in the upper body. Bello said that Solomon is accused of shooting and striking the teen with a hammer when “an argument amongst neighbors that turned physical.”

Solomon fled the scene but was apprehended early Monday morning by Rochester police, Bello said.

The shooting victim was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Bello said. He was in serious but stable condition at Strong Monday, Bello said.

Solomon was being held at the Monroe County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned in City Court Tuesday morning.
