The Rochester City Council continues to consider Mayor Malik Evans’ proposed budget. City council members reviewed it during hearings last week and asked questions about how the money would be spent.
During the city council budget hearing, Evans said this budget is probably one of the most difficult budgets that’s ever been produced in the city’s history.
Despite the challenging process, he said, the budget does not include massive layoffs, huge tax increases or cuts to critical services.
The investments proposed in the budget are centered around the administration’s six priority areas which are public safety, economic development, strong neighborhoods, youth development, fostering resilience and opportunity and prosperity for all.
Some of the investments that are highlighted in the budget includes advancing updates to the zoning code, continuing Bull’s Head Revitalization efforts and expanding the Person in Crisis team.
After the budget hearings, the Rochester City Council plans to vote on the proposed budget on June 16.
