Rice sold at major grocery store chains recalled. What to know

Lundberg Family Farms has recalled 2-pound bags of its Organic Jasmine White Rice because of the possible presence of “foreign material.”

Wegmans Food Markets, which sells the product and was the first to announce the recall on April 4, has pulled it from store shelves.

Walmart, Target and Whole Foods also sell the brand but have not announced the recall.

It also has not yet appeared on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s website, fda.gov.

Which rice product is being recalled?

Based in Richvale, California, Lundberg Family Farms confirmed to USA TODAY that it issued a voluntary Class II recall of approximately 4,500 cases of 2-pound Regenerative Organic Certified White Jasmine Rice pouches “due to the possible presence of foreign material” out of an abundance of caution.

∎ The Universal product code is 073416- 040281.

∎ The best-by dates are 2/1/2027 and 2/2/2027.

∎ The lot codes are 260201, 260202.

What are the health risks?

No illnesses have been reported as the result of consumption of the affected product, the company said.

Although the risk of serious illness or injury from products that form part of a Class II recall is “remote,” consumers with the recalled product may still experience “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” according to the FDA.

What should shoppers do?

People who bought the product at Wegmans should return it for a full refund.
