Report: New York Giants seeking top-10 pick for Dexter Lawrence

The New York Giants remain hopeful of retaining star nose tackle Dexter Lawrence amid stalled contract extension talks, but the team has signaled openness to a trade if negotiations fail to produce an agreement.

Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports that the Giants would demand a significant haul, including a top-10 selection in the 2026 NFL draft or a first-round pick outside the top 10 accompanied by additional assets.

Lawrence, who has two years left on his four-year, $90 million extension signed in 2023, has grown frustrated with the franchise and requested a trade after talks reached an impasse. The 28-year-old Pro Bowler seeks a substantial pay raise that reflects his value as an interior lineman, though he skipped voluntary workouts and forfeited a $500,000 bonus.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen previously described conversations with Lawrence’s representatives as productive, with no deadlines set and a clear preference for keeping the nose tackle to anchor the defensive front.

While bruised feelings exist on both sides, the Giants hold the leverage with Lawrence still under contract. Any deal would require compensation worthy of an elite run-stopper, potentially including multiple high picks to offset the loss of a player who has been central to the team’s defensive identity.

Schoen has emphasized the organization’s desire for resolution, but trade discussions with interested teams have surfaced as the draft approaches. For now, the Giants are not actively shopping Lawrence but stand prepared to move him only at the right price.
