Red Wings to honor local culinary classic with one-night ‘White Hots’ rebrand

The Rochester Red Wings will rebrand as the Rochester White Hots for a single night on Aug. 20 to honor the 100th anniversary of Zweigle’s white hot, a traditional Rochesterian-style hot dog.

First served in 1925, the Zweigle white hot was originally produced for the Red Wings when they were known as the Tribe. Made from a blend of beef, pork and veal in a pork casing, they have been a mainstay of Rochester’s local cuisine, alongside the trash plate. To this day, Zweigle’s factory stands just around the corner from Innovative Field.

“Zweigle’s has been part of Rochester’s DNA for over 140 years,” said Julie Camardo, CEO of Zweigle’s. “To see the White Hot celebrated on the field in this way is a testament to the pride this community has in its food and its baseball team.”

White Hot rebrand for Red Wings includes jerseys, concessions

The one-night-only event will include a full rebrand. With players set to don specially made hats and jerseys, fans can get in on the action and purchase limited-edition White Hot merchandise at ShopRedWings.com.

White Hot’s celebration won’t be limited to the field. Fans can enjoy a pre-game Happy Hour presented by Genesee Beer, featuring $2 drafts, live music and tailgate games near the Jack Daniel’s 10th Inning Bar.

Each concession stand at the ballpark will offer unique white hot-themed dishes, options include:

On-field promotions throughout the night will include a White Hots toppings relay race, trivia and bobbing for White Hots.

The Red Wings — or in this case White Hots — will be facing the Toledo Mud Hens, with the opening pitch set for 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20. Tickets can be purchased at RedWingsBaseball.com.
