The 2026 New York State Little League champions, Port Washington Little League All-Stars, are entering their first Little League World Series regional tournament this Saturday, Aug. 8, in Bristol, Connecticut.
The team captured its first state title after defeating Staten Island’s Mid-Island 11-5 in the state championship in West Nyack this past weekend.
Port Washington’s outfielder and No. 2 pitcher Carlo Cafferata kept the five-time state champions scoreless throughout the latter half of the game. Cafferata struck out six in three innings, allowing just one hit. Jack Gomez led the team with three runs, two hits and two RBIs.
Port Washington’s title victory is the team’s first milestone since qualifying for the state tournament for the first time in 2016. Since then, the team has only qualified for the state tournament three times, including this year.
The back-to-back Section 4 West champions will continue their breakout season in the Little League World Series Metro Region tournament from Aug. 8-14. Port Washington is scheduled to play Rhode Island’s state champion, Lincoln, in the opening matchup at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.
