After years of rumors and speculation, the New York Giants and Odell Beckham Jr. finally made the reunion official when they re-signed the fan favorite and former first-round pick at the beginning of June. Beckham knew from the start that he would have to work hard to make the roster and play regular-season football for the Giants again.
In the early stages of training camp, Beckham has impressed by consistently getting open even when the ball has not been thrown his way, a detail that has not gone unnoticed by the coaching staff.
Just six days into camp, OBJ was “promoted” to taking reps with the first-team offense.
It has been speculated that Beckham may have an inside track to make the roster in a loaded wide receiver competition. Yet it is the little things—getting open regardless of whether targets come his way and catching his teammates’ eyes through his leadership—that have helped him stand out so far.
Since reuniting with the Giants, Beckham has faced his share of doubters and believers regarding the impact he can make in 2026 at age 33, turning 34 during the season. Regardless of his star status and popularity among fans, he is determined to earn his roster spot and the playing time that comes with it. His mentorship of star receiver and fellow LSU alumnus Malik Nabers could prove beneficial for the Giants’ young standout, who is returning from injury—something OBJ knows a thing or two about.
It is still early in training camp. However, Beckham earning first-team reps is not something that should be overlooked. His status with the first team and his continued ability to get open will be worth watching as training camp and the preseason progress.
