The annual Pink & Teal Challenge, a walk/run fundraiser for the Breast Coalition of Rochester, will be held in person Saturday, May 9, and will continue virtually through Sunday, May 10.
Vault Rochester, a downtown fitness studio, will lead a crowd warmup starting at 9 a.m. May 9 at Monroe Community College, 1000 East Henrietta Road. The 5K run will start at 9:30 a.m. and the walks at 9:45 a.m.
In-person winners of various age groups will receive tokens. Prizes also will be awarded for the best individual and best team costumes and for everyone raising various amounts of money for the coalition.
The event, which will conclude at noon, will include raffles, music and food sold by Rita’s Italian Ice and Islands Wraps. The Can Shack Redemption Services will collect cans and bottles brought to the event and donate all proceeds to the coalition. The event will conclude at noon.
The UR Medicine Mobile Mammo Van will offer mammogram services on-site from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. To make an appointment, call 844-870-0002. Walk-in appointments will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and may involve a wait.
The last time to register for the Pink & Teal Challenge is 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 8, at https://runsignup.com/Race/NY/Rochester/PinkandTealChallenge. The price is $32.80 for entrants in the 5k Run (Women/Female Identifying Only Race), the 5K walk or 2-mile shortcut, and the Virtual 5K Run or Walk, open to everyone. Children 5 and younger can participate for free and do not need to register. Pets are not allowed. There will be no in-person registration the day of the race.
Virtual participants can complete their event between 5 p.m. Friday, May 8, and midnight Sunday, May 10.
Participants may pick up their event packets, including their bibs, at the coalition office at 1048 University Ave. between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Thursday May 7, or Friday, May 8, or at MCC on May 9 before the event.
The Pink & Teal Challenge is the largest fundraiser for the coalition. Formerly the Pink Ribbon Run & Walk, its name was changed in 2017 after the coalition expanded its services to include people facing gynecologic cancer as well as those with breast cancer.
People wishing to sponsor this event or other coalition fundraisers should go to https://e.givesmart.com/events/LN1/. “All proceeds stay local to provide free programs and services to anyone facing a breast or gynecologic cancer diagnosis,” according to the coalition’s website.
