Red, white and blue lined Five Mile Line Road on Saturday as thousands gathered for the Penfield Independence Day Parade, one of the region’s signature Fourth of July celebrations.
This year’s parade celebrated the United States’ semiquincentennial, or 250th anniversary, with a morning of patriotic displays, marching bands and community organizations.
Community pride on display
Spectators cheered as parade participants made their way through Penfield, waving flags and celebrating the upcoming Independence Day holiday.
Former WROC-TV broadcaster John Kucko served as this year’s parade marshal. Elected officials, including Congressman Joe Morelle and Monroe County Executive Adam J. Bello, also took part in the parade.
Bands, community groups take part
Several musical groups entertained the crowd, including the Macedon Towpath Volunteers Fife and Drum Corps, Fiddlers of the Genesee and the Penfield Fire Company Band.
Community organizations and local groups also marched in the parade, including the Penfield Public Library, Webster Fire Department, Boy Scout Pack 250 and the Rochester Corvette Club.
