For the second straight day, the blizzard that pounded New York City, the Lower Hudson Valley and Long Island set several daily snowfall records, according to the National Weather Service.
Some areas recorded more than two feet of snow as the powerful storm stopped the New York City region in its tracks.
Record-breaking snowfall during NYC blizzard
Daily snowfall totals are measured at four official observing sites in the New York City area at midnight. All four of those locations set new records for Feb. 23, breaking marks that had stood since 1972 and 1987. The previous records ranged from 4.1 to 6.7 inches.

JFK International Airport was the lone airport to not set two straight days of records.

When adding the snow totals together for Sunday, Feb. 22 and Monday, Feb. 23, the official Weather Service stations saw between 19 and 25 inches of snow. It does not account for any snow that fell after midnight on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Many communities reported two feet of snow with higher totals on Long Island and Staten Island. The highest submitted snowfall recorded was 31 inches in Islip, Suffolk County.
