NY’s Lucas West gets standing ovation during ‘The Voice’ Semi-Finals

West, a 2022 graduate from Fairport Central School District and a current senior at the State University of New York at Fredonia, was one of nine contestants to make the April 13 Semi-Finals round of ‘The Voice.’

He was the last performance of the Semi-Finals night before the votes were announced, deciding who would make it to the finale night.

“It would be incredible to be the one finalist for Team Legend, like I had a dream about that last night,” West said in the clip package ahead of his Monday night performance. “I really want it to happen, and I want to represent my friend, my mentor- that’s my guy, John Legend.”

West chose to cover Paul McCartney’s ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’ for his Semi-Finals performance. He said he was dedicating the song to his friends, family and mentors as a way to thank them for their support.

His performance received a standing ovation from the three judges, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine.

“Not just a great voice, man, you’re just a great artist overall,” Clarkson told West after his performance, stating that she could see him playing in stadiums one day.

Legend, West’s team leader and mentor, whose team West chose to be on during the audition round, because he said he appreciated that they were both pianists as well as singers, was also blown away by his performance.

“You are the whole package,” Legend said. “You are an artist’s artist.”

After his performance, the studio audience voted for the top four to move on in the competition. West was selected as the finalist for Team Legend.

What will he sing for his final performance on tonight’s two-hour finale of ‘The Voice’? Will he bring home the win? Stay tuned for tonight’s episode to find out.
