A Putnam County man is facing multiple felony charges, including incest, rape and child sexual abuse offenses, after a sheriff’s office investigation, authorities said.
Investigation began after April 7 report
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said investigators opened a case after a report on April 7 accused Cory R. Matthews, 38, of Kent, of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material through social media and online messaging.
Investigators later confirmed Matthews as the suspect and said they found evidence he was possessing and promoting child sexual abuse material, according to the sheriff’s office.
Search warrant executed at residence
On April 16, deputies executed a search warrant at Matthews’ home, where they allegedly found the illicit material, along with an illegal firearm and a high-capacity magazine.
Arrest and additional charges
Matthews was arrested and initially arraigned in Town of Putnam Valley Court. He was later arraigned on additional charges on April 19 and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility without bail.
