New Yorkers will receive their one-time inflation refund checks of up to $400 starting later this fall.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced more details about the first-time action Wednesday as 8.2 million New York taxpayers will benefit from the checks made possible through the recently agreed upon fiscal year 2026 budget.
“Starting in October, over 8 million New Yorkers will get an inflation refund because it’s simple — this is your money and we’re putting it back in your pockets,” Hochul said. “I’ll never stop fighting to help your family address the rising cost of living — and that’s why I also delivered on my promise to cut taxes for the middle class, expand the child tax credit and ensure free school meals for every student.”

A specific delivery schedule won’t be available as mailings aren’t based on zip code or region and the department’s Contact Center representatives won’t have more information on your check’s status.
