A month into the season, nine Section V girls soccer teams remain unbeaten. And while that total is sure to shrink, it reflects the region’s competitiveness this fall.
Eighteen teams in all are listed in the initial New York State Sportswriter Association rankings of the season. Among them, some usual suspects like nine-time defending section champion Spencerport (Class AA). There’s also Jasper-Troupsburg (Class D), which won one match all of last season but has shown drastic improvement in the early going.
Aquinas, which returned to Class A this season, has acquitted itself well to its new classification. The Lil Irish are perfect through six games. Williamson, which bumped from Class C-1 to Class B this fall, remains one of the stronger programs.
