NFL power rankings round-up 2025: How do New York Giants fare entering Week 4?

The New York Giants fell to 0-3 on the season following an ugly 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football that left fans booing veteran quarterback Russell Wilson and cheering rookie Jaxson Dart.

Is change on the horizon as head coach Brian Daboll loses his handle on yet another season? He waffled on that decision to start the week, but it may be the final card he can play before co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch come calling for his job.

The schedule remains difficult heading into Week 4, where they’ll take on the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium.

As we enter Week 3, here’s a look at where the Giants place in a multitude of power rankings.

Nate Davis, USA TODAY: 30 (-5)

Their starting backfield could have been Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley. Their starting backfield could be Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo. But Giants fans will − at least for now − have to settle for none of the above.

Frank Schwab, Yahoo! Sports: 29 (-3)

Brian Daboll said the Giants are evaluating everything when asked about the quarterback situation. Russell Wilson hasn’t given the team a chance to compete in two of its three games. If Wilson’s one good game precludes a Week 4 change to Jaxson Dart, that’s a mistake.

Diante Lee, The Ringer: 30 (-3)

For a few hours in Week 2 at Jerry World, Giants fans got to experience a quarterback-driven euphoria it hadn’t felt since the early 2010s. But just a week later, Russell Wilson instantly looked like a totally unplayable QB, and now head coach Brian Daboll is back to waffling on whether Wilson can continue as the starter.

However fun it may be when Wilson is letting moonballs rip down the sidelines, he has nothing else to offer the offense. I don’t necessarily think rookie Jaxson Dart is the answer that will make the Giants immediately competitive (or that we should trust Daboll with Dart’s development), but if the coach says it’s time to move on from Wilson, that move would be totally justified.

Vinnie Iyer, The Sporting News: 29 (-2)

The Giants are trying to delay playing Jaxson Dart as much as they can during his rookie season, but unfortunately, their defense and lack of running game are pushing them toward being out of contention and  they likely need the spark the first-round QB might provide.

Pete Prisco, CBS Sports: 28 (-2)

It’s time. Sit Russell Wilson down. Did you see him against the Chiefs? He was bad with two picks and failed to score on a late drive in ugly fashion.

Conor Orr, Sports Illustrated: 31 (-4)

The Giants’ goal line sequence in which Russell Wilson didn’t throw a single pass into the end zone against the Chiefs, which followed a game two weeks prior with similarly disastrous results, juxtaposed with a Lions team that scored a rushing touchdown on Monday where one running back option tossed to another, is truly something. Cam Skattebo will be this year’s Tommy DeVito at least.

Josh Kendall, The Athletic: 30 (NC)

The home fans were chanting for rookie Jaxson Dart during “Sunday Night Football.” And yet, shockingly, Russell Wilson’s numbers have not been terrible. The three interceptions don’t help, but Wilson ranks 20th in EPA per play and 12th in yards per attempt. However, that covers up some of the red zone woes where Wilson is 4-of-18 passing with no touchdowns this season. That is why Brian Daboll said Monday the team is “evaluating everything.”

Barry Werner, List Wire: 29 (-2)

The Giants hung around, but lost to a better team. A much better team. The defense did its part. The offense didn’t. Wonder how long before Brian Daboll goes to Jaxson Dart. There shouldn’t be a rush, but at some point, a winless team with Russell Wilson isn’t providing much.

Walter Football: 26 (NC)

Russell Wilson, literally the best in the NFL right now. Just don’t tell Giants fans, who were booing him heavily. Jaxon Dart’s time will come, but there’s no reason for the Giants to play him now, especially when every loss will translate to a better player in the 2026 NFL Draft.

NFL Nation, ESPN: 30 (-1)

It’s easy to sit there and talk about the Giants’ run defense, which ranks 31st in the league. But the pass rush is supposed to be the strength of this team. The Giants are getting pressure, but they’re 20th in the league, averaging a sack on 5.9% of opponent dropbacks. That’s not good enough for a group that has Brian Burns playing at an All-Pro level and with Kayvon Thibodeaux, Abdul Carter and Dexter Lawrence II on the roster.
