NFL analyst believes New York Giants don't need to rush Jaxson Dart

The New York Giants have gone from an empty quarterback room to a full one in just a matter of two months and there’s debate over who should be played and how.

Head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen told the media during the 2025 NFL draft that veteran free agent Russell Wilson will be the team’s opening week starter and first-round pick Jaxson Dart would be brought along slowly.

Former NFL quarterback-turned-analyst Dan Orlovsky agrees. Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Orlovsky said he believes the GIants’ plan is solid and should not deviate from it.

“I’m very high on Jaxson Dart and I thought he was gonna be a top ten pick..

“I don’t really believe the Giants should rush Jaxson Dart in the least bit,” Orlovsky said. “If you’re the Giants you’re probably thinking sometime like Thanksgiving playing Dart.”

The Giants don’t need to rush Dart although they might be tempted to should he “ball out” in training camp and the preseason.

The Giants have several layers on their depth chart between Wilson and Dart in the form of Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito. The Giants inked Winston before coming to terms with Wilson and had their sights set on a young arm in the draft. That turned out to be Dart, who they were able to secure in a trade on Day 1 of the draft.

DeVito is still in house as he is the most familar with the offense. Wilson is sgned for one seaosn and Winston two. Dart will be the quarterback of the future, but as of now, the Giants should continue to go through the progression they laid out after the draft.
