Colorful fall foliage continues to emerge across the Empire State as New York’s leaf-peeping season is underway. According to New York’s weekly fall foliage report, spectacular seasonal hues are emerging across New York state. As expected, the most significant changes are notable in the Adirondacks and Catskills.
So, what are the conditions across the state this week? Here’s the second report of the season from the state Department of Economic Development, broken out by region:
Adirondacks fall foliage
Hamilton County: A 55% color transition is expected by the weekend in Old Forge, with average to bright orange and gold leaves, plus pops of bright reds. Spotters predict a 40% color change by the weekend in Lake Pleasant, with seasonal shades. A 10% color transition is predicted in Benson, with muted shades of red and orange.
St. Lawrence County: A 25%-50% color transition is expected by the weekend in Wanakena with shades of purple, red, and red-brown leaves, plus some early leaf droppage
Essex County: Spotters predict a 40% change in Newcomb by the weekend, with red and orange leaves. Expect less than 30% color change at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, with increasing shades of yellow, red and orange, and about 25% transition in the area around the mountain. Crown Point and Lake Placid all expect a 20% color change by the weekend, with a variety of seasonal colors, including yellow and orange. In Ticonderoga, expect a 15% color transition, with muted dark red and brown tones and some subtle orange.
Franklin County: Up to a 40% color change in predicted by the weekend in Tupper Lake and Mt. Arab, with traces of rhubarb, claret, saffron, canary, carrot, clementine and cherry-colored leaves. In Saranac Lake, a 25% color change is also predicted, with yellow leaves and increasing shades of red. There is a 10% color change in Malone, with some bright red and orange leaves.
Warren County: A 15% change in Queensbury is expected, according to spotters, with mostly muted yellows. Expect a 5% change in Lake George with a mix of fall colors.
Capital-Saratoga fall foliage
Rensselear County: Spotters predict up to 20% change in East Nassau, with scattered bursts of bright yellows, and undertones of muted orange, red and russet. Expect up to a 15% color change in Grafton with seasonal shades and less than a 10% color change in Troy, with muted russet, yellow, orange, and red leaves.
Albany County: In Voorheeseville, observers predict a 20% color change at Thacher State Park. Spotters predict more than a 10% change with some muted russet, yellow and red leaves in Cohoes at Cohoes Falls.
Fulton County: A 20% change in Stratford is expected by the weekend, with shades of yellow and a few pockets of brilliant red leaves. Spotters also predict a 20% color change in Northville, with golden hues driven by average to bright orange leaves, along with pops of red.
Schenectady County: Spotters predict a 15% change in Central Park in Schenectady with reds, orange-pinks, yellows, and golds.
Saratoga County: Expect a 10% change in Saratoga Springs by the weekend, with shades of yellow, orange and rust.
Catskills fall foliage
Delaware County: In Dehli, expect up to a 55% color transition, with average to bright hues of gold and orange leaves. Spotters predict up to a 50% color change by the weekend in Colchester with mostly yellow and orange leaves, and some red. A 25% color change is predicted by the weekend in Bloomville and Stamford, with muted brown and orange leaves.
Greene County: Observers predict a 40% color transition in the upper elevations of Mountain Top, Hunter, Tannersville, Windham and Lexington, with average to bright red and orange leaves. By the weekend, a 25% change is expected at Tannersville Lake Park in Tannersville, with bright reds and oranges.
Sullivan County: Spotters predict a 35% change in Liberty, with some bright shades of red, purple, yellow and orange. By the weekend a 15% color change in Forestburgh is expected, with average to bright shades of red, yellow and orange.
Ulster County: Spotters predict a 20% color change at Belleayre Mountain in Highmount, with mostly shades of rust and occasional bright patches of reds and yellows.
Central New York fall foliage
Oneida County: Spotters predict more than a 35% color change by the weekend in Utica, with primarily yellow leaves.
Otsego County: Expect up to a 30% color change by the weekend in Cherry Valley, with with yellow and orange leaves, many with browning edges. A 15% color change is predicted in Cooperstown, with muted yellow and orange leaves.
Chenango County: Observers predict a 30% color change in Bainbridge, Norwich and Guilford by the weekend, with orange and yellow leaves, along some red and touches of purple, and some early leaf droppage.
Herkimer County: By the weekend, expect less than 20% change in Herkimer, with muted red and yellow leaves.
Montgomery County: Spotters predict 20% color change in Fonda by the weekend, with mainly muted yellow leaves.
Madison County: Expect a 10% color transition in Cazenovia by the weekend, with yellow and orange leaves.
Broome County: Spotters predict a 5% to 10% change by the weekend.
Schoharie County: By the weekend, observers predict a 10% change in Summit, Richmondville and Middleburgh, with orange and yellow leave emerging. In Gilboa, expect less than 5% color change.
Finger Lakes fall foliage
Ontario County: Expect up to 20% transition in Canandaigua by the weekend, with bright touches of fall, but no significant change is expected in nearby Farmington.
Tioga County: In Owego, expect a 20% foliage change by the weekend, with orange, yellow, and brown leaves.
Tompkins County: Spotters predict a 15% change in Ithaca and Trumansburg, with pops of yellow and orange.
Seneca County: Observers predict a 15% color change by the weekened in Waterloo with touches of red and gold leaves. In nearby Seneca Falls, expect a 5% change, with a mix of fall colors starting to emerge.
Cayuga County: By the weekend, expect a 15% color transition in Moravia and Locke, with muted orange and red leaves. In Auburn, expect a 10% change, with muted to average shades of purple, and some yellow leaves.
Steuben County: Spotters predict 10% color change by the weekend in Bath, Corning, Hammondsport and Hornell, with muted yellow and orange leaves.
Chemung County: Spotters predict more than a 10% color change in Elmira, with mostly orange leaves.
Cortland County: Spotters predict a 10% color change in Cortland, with muted red and orange leaves.
Livingston County: Observers predict a 10% of color change in Geneseo by the weekend, with a mix of fall colors
Monroe County: Spotters predict less than a 10% color change by the weekend in Rochester, with touches of light-green to yellow mustard and a few hints of orange.
Onondaga County: Less than a 10% color change is predicted by the weekend at Beaver Lake in Baldwinsville by the weekend, with shades of yellow and red.
Schuyler County: Expect a 10% color transition by the weekend in Watkins Glen, with muted yellow and orange leaves.
Wayne County: Expect up to a 10% change in Lyons with some scattered pockets of orange and yellow.
Yates County: By the weekend, spotters predict a 10% change in Penn Yan, with a mix of fall colors.
Chautauqua-Allegheny
Cattauragus County: Spotters predict a 30% color change in Little Valley by the weekend, with mostly yellow and a few orange leaves. A 25% color transition is expected at Allegany State Park in Salamanca, with shades of yellow and red appearing in some maple trees.
Chautauqua County: Observers predict a 20% color transition in Chautauqua, with average to bright shades of yellow, orange and red leaves. A 20% color change is also predicted in Panama, where there is a seasonal mix of hues, at Lake Erie State Park in Portland and in Jamestown near Chautauqua Lake, where there is an array of bright fall colors.
Greater Niagara fall foliage
Wyoming County: Spotters predict 15% color transition at Letchworth State Park in Warsaw, with a mix of fall colors.
Erie County: Expect a 10% color change by the weekend in East Aurora, with mostly muted burnt reds and browns. Spotters also predict a 10% color change in Buffalo, where a mix of fall hues is emerging, and a 10% change in Springville and Boston, with yellow and orange leaves.
Niagara County: Observers predict a 10% color change by the weekend in Lewiston, with bright red and yellow leaves. In Niagara Falls, expect a 5% color change, with average to bright yellows.
Orleans County: Spotters predict more than a 5% change in Albion, with average to brightmix of autumnal hues.
Thousand Islands-Seaway
St. Lawrence County: Expect a 30% change in Massena by the weekend, with increasing shades of yellow and orange, plus touches of red and purple.
Jefferson County: Observers predict a 25% color change in Alexandria Bay, with with a mix of fall colors.
Oswego County: A 10% color change is predicted by the weekend in Parish, where there are pops of red and orange emerging. Oswego expects a 5% color transitiion by the weekend.
Hudson Valley fall foliage
Ulster County: Observers predict a 30% change in Kingston by the weekend, with bright shades of yellow, red and orange.
Columbia County: Spotters predict a 25% color change in Hudson by the weekend, with mostly yellow leaves. Expect a 15% color change in Valatie, with mostly orange leaves.
Dutchess County: Less than a 10% color change is predicted by the weekend in Poughkeepsie, with some yellow and brown leaves. Spotters also predict a 5% color change in Beacon, with small patches of yellow.
Westchester County: Expect a 10% color change in White Plains, with mostly muted fall shades.
Orange County: Spotters predict less than 5% ncolor transition in Washingtonville, with average to bright red and yellow leaves.
Rockland County: Less than a 5% color change is predicted by the weekend in Orangeburg, with yellow and orange leaves.
Long Island:
Nassau County: Spotters predict a 10% to 15% color change along the lake edge at Mill Pond Park in Wantagh, with red and orange leaves. Also expect a 10% color change at Hempstead Lake State Park in West Hempstead, with average to bright splashes of crimson and brown.
New York City
Just over 5% color change is expected on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, but little change is expected in Central Park.
