The New York Giants will attempt to turn the page from their dreadful Week 1 performance on Sunday when they travel on the road to battle the Dallas Cowboys.
The Giants opened the week as 4.5-point road underdogs.
The Giants are coming off another dreadful season opener, the third-straight in which they failed to find the end zone. The Cowboys, on the other hand, went toe-to-toe with the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and will be playing with a little extra rest after playing in the NFL’s season opener last Thursday.
With both teams coming off losses against division rivals, you can expect there to be a sense of urgency from both the Giants and Cowboys in Week 2.
Here are three causes for concern ahead of the Giants’ Week 2 matchup.
Offensive ineptitude
The Giants scored just six points in their season opener against the Commanders. Despite that, they kept it close for a good majority of the game. Although the Giants’ defense left plenty to be desired on the field, six points isn’t going to get the job done moving forward. The offensive line will need to play better to give Russell Wilson and the Giants’ offense a chance at moving the ball down the field.
Giants O-line vs. Cowboys defensive front
Despite the Cowboys trading Micah Parsons away just a week before their season opener, their defensive front was in the Eagles’ backfield early and often. This should be a real concern for a Giants offensive line that looked dreadful in their season opener. If the O-line is unable to hold up again on Sunday, it could be a long day for the big Big Blue offense, and we may see the same stagnant offense we saw in the season opener.
Cowboys Pass Catchers
The Cowboys’ duo of receivers, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, is arguably as good a duo as the Giants will see all season. Last week, the Commanders’ receivers seemed to be open way too often, so Big Blue’s hands will be full.
The Giants left too many pass catchers open on Sunday, and the game could have been much worse if not for a few missed throws by Jayden Daniels and a handful of drops by the Commanders. Lamb had a few tough drops in the second half of the Cowboys’ season opener, but I wouldn’t expect that trend to continue for the star receiver.
