The New York Giants took to the practice field on Day 2 of their 2025 training camp on Thursday. It was a beautiful summer morning in New Jersey, and the team was able to accomplish quite a bit under the bright Northern New Jersey sun.
Here are nine takeaways from the day and nearly two-hour practice.
Managing Nabers’ toe
Head coach Brian Daboll was asked if second-year wide receiver Malik Nabers’ toe will continue to be managed. His answer was noteworthy.
“We’ll see as it goes. We’ll go through practice, see how it feels. If we have to pull back, we’ll pull back some. It looked pretty good yesterday,” he said. “I’m not going to get into injuries and conversations of that. He’s working through it and like I said, I think you all saw, he looks pretty good out there.
“You guys see him out there, he looks pretty good. We’ll do what we need to do to keep him as fresh as we can keep him. If he has any type of setback or is extra sore, then we have a discussion with the training staff, with the doctors, the medical team and decide what’s best, but he’s good to go. Three days – who knows in three days, how’s it feel? If we need to pull back a little bit – that’s kind of the day-by-day plan as we go.”
Dart’s Day 1 Pick-six not a big issue
Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart threw a pick-6 on Day 1, which reminded all who have hopes that he could be ready to play this season that he still has a long way to go. Daboll didn’t dwell too much on it.
“You talk about it right after it. I mean, the defense made a good play. He threw it into (Nic) Jones there, made a nice play and moved on to the next play. That’s what these practices are for, for everybody. There’ll be some good, there’ll be some things we need to correct and make sure you correct them and move on,” Daboll said.
“Every play, you have something to teach a player, correct a player on — most every play. So, to get into every detail of every play, ‘You should have done this. You should have done this.’ It happens for every position. It happens on defense and the kicking game, on offense, you go to the meeting room, you watch the tape, coach up, ‘Hey, this is what you could have done differently,’ and then you go on to the next play.”
The rookies are loose and ready to contribute
Dart and fellow rookie, running back Cam Skattebo, emerged from the locker room ready for action on Thursday. It appears they have made a solid connection already.
They continue to embrace via headbutt.
Nabers beats Adebo for TD
Questions about Nabers’ toe continue to be answered. He beat big-ticket free agent cornerback Paulson Adebo early on in practice for a touchdown on a pass from Russell Wilson.
Carter is playing all over so far
Linebacker Abdul Carter, the third overall pick in this year’s NFL draft, has been lining up all over so far. He has been used as a stand-up outside linebacker as well as on the inside. The Giants want to exploit his talents in as many ways as possible.
Wan’Dale taking the next step as a receiver
While the headlines are going to other players, wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson wants you to keep him on your radar. For the second consecutive day, he stood out at practice. He wants to remain a starter, and he’s off to a stellar start.
Hyatt left practice with a leg issue
This is an important camp for third-year wideout Jalin Hyatt. He needs to show the coaches that he is ready for a larger target share.
On Thursday, Hyatt caught a touchdown pass from Dart but was then seen getting treated by trainers on the sidelines later on in practice.
Hyatt dealt with a leg issue earlier in the spring, but there is hope this was little more than cramping.
Thibodeaux is planning on a big season
Former first-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux is gearing up for a breakout year. The fourth-year linebacker was getting himself ready to grapple by working out with wrestlers this offseason. He is healthy and claims he has developed into a top edge rusher.
“Definitely one of my goals is to finish. Like I said before, I had 5.5 sacks last season. I had five half sacks, which equates to 2.5 and probably would’ve been — you guys can do the math — maybe 7.0 or 8.0 if I were to finish those. (I’m) just making sure that I get everything I deserve this year,” he said.
“We don’t get to practice tackling preseason, so until you actually — especially on the quarterbacks, until you actually get in the game, that’s the only time we actually get to replicate sacking a quarterback. Just doing — as you mentioned before, I’ve been wrestling a little bit, taking some guys to the ground. I’ve been on bags and stuff, working on my tackling earlier in the season.”
Rookie TE Fidone making his presence known
Rookie tight end Thomas Fidone, a seventh-round pick in this year’s draft, is putting his best foot forward so far in training camp. Fidone was a top recruit coming out of high school before he suffered back-to-back knee injuries in college at Nebraska. He’s not letting this opportunity slip by.
