New York Giants signing D.J. Reader to two-year deal

The New York Giants are signing veteran defensive tackle D.J. Reader, reports ESPN’s Jordan Schultz.

Reader has agreed to a two-year, $12.5 million deal with the Giants following two seasons with the Detroit Lions. The talented big man has been a key contributor throughout his entire 10-year career, as Reader will add an instant boost to New York’s defensive line following the Dexter Lawrence trade just three weeks ago.

Reader recorded 28 total tackles and four quarterback hits across 17 appearances with the Lions last season. Standing at 6-foot-3 and 330 pounds, Reader has proven to still have a lot left in the tank over the past few years despite being 31 years old, and the veteran will look to shine across the next two seasons on the Giants’ defensive line.

The Giants have added four defensive tackles over the past few weeks following the addition of Reader. New York drafted Auburn defensive tackle Bobby Jamison-Travis in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, while also signing veterans Shelby Harris and Leki Fotu just days later.

Reader has been on the Giants’ radar for quite some time now, and the former Lion has officially landed in New York on a two-year deal as a result.
