New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll met the media on Monday morning before his team engaged in its first padded practice of training camp.
With temperatures rising into the 90s and no cover from clouds, the practice promises to be a brutal one. Daboll said he might allow the team to tackle fully as the workout unfolded.
Daboll gave an update on some injuries. Wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson will be held out after being kneed in the leg on Sunday. Linebacker Brian Burns will participate, as will wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, but only in individual drills.
“Nothing serious,” Daboll said of Robinson.
The team lost wide receiver/special teamer Bryce Ford-Wheaton for the season over the weekend with a torn Achilles tendon.
“My heart aches for that man,” Daboll said.
Daboll added that all four quarterbacks would get reps on Monday. He also stressed he’ll have very little tolerance for fights during drills.
The coach also said he was eager to see the rookies, especially the ones known for their physical style, such as linebacker Abdul Carter and running back Cam Skattebo, in full pads for the first time.
Daboll expects some scuffling on Monday but advised players he would remove them from the field if they are involved.
