New York Giants' Abdul Carter: Edge rushers are the new quarterbacks

When the New York Giants selected edge rusher Abdul Carter with the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, there was a ton of hype surrounding the Penn State product.

The Giants’ rookie was impressive throughout training camp and preseason. Now, in the regular season, Carter has shown flashes through two games.

On Friday, after the Thursday Night Football matchup where the Green Bay Packers defeated the Washington Commanders, Carter shared his thoughts comparing rushers and quarterbacks following the performance by Micah Parsons.

Parsons has made his presence known since joining the Packers, recording three quarterback hits and a half-sack on Thursday Night.

The Giants organization knows all too well how much a great pass rush can affect the game; a big reason they added Carter to a talented defensive front.

Carter has, of course, followed a similar path to the NFL as Parsons, after both played for the Nittany Lions, each wearing the iconic No. 11, worn by so many legends at Penn State.

Carter is active on social media and made headlines all summer long as he eyed up a few retired numbers from the Giants organization. Carter would eventually announce his own jersey number selection on social media.

He was outspoken during Parsons’ holdout with the Dallas Cowboys before the trade and celebrated his fellow Penn State alumni after Parsons got traded and landed his lucrative contract.

If Carter ends up being anything close to the player Parsons has become, he, too, will land a massive contract following his rookie deal. However, the Giants’ rookie has a lot to prove his worth in the games ahead this season and beyond.
