New City's losing its Ocean State Job Lot store. Find out when

NEW CITY – The Ocean State Job Lot store off North Main Street, a place that sells everything from strawberry-flavored Kit Kats to full-size kayaks, closes on Halloween.

Store officials said the closure comes as the lease ends for the store located at 182 N. Main St. in the New City Plaza. This is the only Ocean State Job Lot store to close in New York; three new outlets opened recently in the state in Liverpool, near Syracuse; Dansville, in Western New York; and Queensbury, north of Albany.

After the store’s permanent closure at 8 p.m. Oct. 31, Ocean State Job Lot directs shoppers to its store on Route 59 in Nanuet, the site of a former Toys R Us, which is about 5 miles south.

A recent visit to the store showed a few empty shelves, but still plenty of stock, from swimsuits to doormats to rugs; spices, snacks and small kitchen appliances; to grilling needs, down to the propane, and the aforementioned watercraft.

No information was publicly available about a possible future tenant.

The closing store is located next to Stop & Shop, which just underwent a redesign and hosted a grand reopening last month. At the other side of the shopping plaza’s strip of stores sits Norcina, a popular eatery in the hamlet. The plaza also includes a gas station and a McDonalds.
