It might feel a long way out, but spring will come to the Rochester area at some point — and there’s an opportunity to refresh your greenery.
Now through March 6, the Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District is accepting orders from its tree and shrub program. All the plants on order are seedlings of native or naturalized plants.
Trees, shrubs and seed mixes available now
The species available include conifers, shrubs, trees and a couple of miscellaneous options. Some have already sold out, including black chokeberry, American plum, northern pecan and white oak. Seedlings can be purchased in packs of 10, 50 or 100 — with prices ranging from $16 to $110 depending on the package.
There are also seed mixes, bat boxes, bird boxes, fertilizer tablets and other items available.
The order form can be filled out and then either emailed or mailed to the conservation district. The email address and mailing address can be found on the form available on the conservation district website.
After the March 6 deadline for orders, orders will be available for pickup from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 23 and 24 at the Monroe County ecopark. An overstock sale of any remaining species will be held at 9 a.m. on April 25 until all species are sold out.
A full catalog of plants available through the tree and shrub program is available on the organization’s website.
